Existentialism Assignment - Critique
Okay, if the quality is garbage its because I had to lower it to put it on youtube since the actual video is over 4Gigs in size. Also this is just a short 5 min clip of the entire thing no where near the final product.
Just to give you guys some understanding about our (Neeraj, Josh, Naeem and Awrco) idea.
The movie is basically a contrast between two people. Both these people are regular high school students but lead entirely different lives. One as you see is living life to the full extent having fun and socializing. The other which you guys haven't seen yet is the opposite. He is anti-social depressed and so on. We are trying to have no cliche moments and working with different camera angles and other effects.
If you have any questions or comments feel free to ask. Ill reply back to either answer them or clarify what we are doing.
[Edit]- So this is just a small preview of our whole movie. There is still a whole lot that we couldnt show becuase of uploading problems. Other then that I hope you guys get the basic idea of we are trying to show. A contrast between two people is basically our movie.

hey guys :)
so i think this idea is coming along well.. even though i havent seen the other guy (anti-social guy).
so a few things i'd like to say.
some sounds cut off while the videos playing.. idk if that's technical difficulty or anything but just to tell you
and just a suggestion, maybe when there's clips of his life, put some like music in the background? i dont know if that will kill the effect or anything
another thing, i know its a work in progress but some of your cutting of the video is weird like it'll be playing and a split second of... a dish or food? and then back to where you were supposed to be.
and i think finally, i know you're experimenting with camera angles but some are a LITTLE comfusing... like i guess what im trying to say about hte camera angles is that its good... but it could be better at times.
:)
I'm not sure if I am able to see your idea and message yet, but it looks like a good start. The idea is very interesting and I have heard how it will end and look forward to it.
Sorry if you have already noticed this, but some parts are very awkward. (ie. long pause before pausing the orange juice, pause before toast pops up. The editing could still use a bit more refinement.
Also, there are some continuity errors in this film and some scenes are confusing because of the sequence of shots. Remember to follow the rules of film making that we learned in class such as the 180 degree rule and cutting on action even if you are experimenting with angles.
Right now i have to admit i am confused, but in a sense i get your idea. I dont know if you watched Avatar but... this daily blogging reminds me a lot of the main character in Avatar who blogs about his life in two worlds and you can see the hardship he goes through and the changes in his character through his blogging as he expresses each conflict and just antyhing random!
im still very unclear how you are going to execute this idea because it seems like you have A LOT to film and put together and the transitions will be very important because if theres too many huge changes in settings the viewer will easily get confused but hey its not such a bad thing to confuse the viewer in the beggining maybe you can do that and then let it all tie in together so they can have that big "oh i get it now!" moment when they recognize the contrast (sort of like kate's defamilarization porject if you remember with the long and tedious filming of the cereal in macro.. but i dont have any doubt in you skills together seeing your other short film productions..dont be hesitant to even split the screen in two to punch in that idea of the huge contrast in two lives.
challenging but i have confidence you guys will make amendments to a high quality final piece!
